Acai
Acai berries are another hot entry into the anti-aging market. Harvested in Amazonian rainforests, they have been shown to have anti-oxidant properties. Acai contains greater concentrations of anthocyanins* than red grapes and red wine. The berries, harvested from palm trees found in the Brazilian rainforest, also contain amino acids and essential fatty acids.
Current studies measuring blood and urine of subjects who have consumed the pulp and juice of the berries have shown that the anti-oxidants they contain are easily absorbed into the body. What we don't yet know is the amount necessary to obtain full benefits.
In addition to appearing in juices and supplements, acai oil is used in beauty products such as face cream and shampoos and its healthy properties remain active even in long-term storage of these products.
As usual, compare the concentrations of the active ingredients in all acai supplements and products. In addition to purchains them online, you can find products containing acai at health food stores and organic food chains (be prepared for higher prices, however).
*Anthocyanins are an anti-oxidant (the name comes from cyanin as in the color "cyan", not the poison cyanide!) that give red, purple and blue plants, fruits and flowers their colors.
