Before you purchase any antiaging supplements, wrinkle removers, collagen renewal serums or any other product that promises to restore your youth, make your heart healthy and other enticing claims, you should understand what you're buying.
There are many bargains to be found. For example, you don't need to spend a lot of money on department store cosmetics when you can buy virtually the same product online or at your local drugstore. The key to knowing which beauty products are right for you is in understanding the ingredients. Unless you understand, for example, what titanium dioxide is, it won't do you much good to compare products except in terms of how much you spend.
So, we'll start by introducing many of the active ingredients used in today's beauty products and health supplements. Some ingredients, particularly those with anti-oxidant properties, will show up in both categories: skin care products and supplements you take internally.

SUPPLEMENTS
Reservatrol is a plant derived compound, most familiarly found in grapes. The plant produces it in response to attacks from fungus or bacteria. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties were discovered in lab experiments conducted on mice and rats. These experiments also showed that resveratrol has a positive effect on cancer cells. Acai berries are another hot entry into the anti-aging market. Harvested in Amazonian rainforests, they have been shown to have anti-oxidant properties. Simply put, an anti-oxidant is a molecule that interfers with the oxidation process of other molecules. An every day example of oxidation is the rust on iron and the "patina" on copper which appears when the metals have been in contact with the air for a while.
